Susitna-Watana Hydro updates environmental data, Initial Study Report

AEA works to maintain value of data collected

Throughout the Susitna-Watana Hydro licensing process, a large priority for AEA has been to maintain the public value of the data collected. In December 2014, Gov. Walker issues Administrative Order 271, stopping all discretionary spending on six projects, including Susitna-Watana Hydro. At that time, AEA was in the midst of the Initial Study Report process. (The Initial Study Reports are essentially a progress report of the environmental studies)

This summer, AEA was authorized to use existing funds to restart the federal licensing process to advance to the Study Plan Determination in 2016.

AEA has filed a voluminous Initial Study Report. Parts A, B and C on June 6, 2014 and part D on Nov. 6, 2015. Here is an overview of the Initial Study Report part D and next steps. All of the reports are available online under the Documents section of the website.

On Dec. 2, 2015, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) published the updated licensing schedule. As part of the licensing process there will be stakeholder meetings beginning in March and opportunities for public comment.
